Teaching Points

  • Investigation of recurrent headache in children is often not indicated, unless the following ‘Red Flag symptoms/signs are present -
    • Focal neurological signs
    • Persistent headache for 6 months
    • Persistent headache in a child without a family history of migraine
    • Persistent headache with confusion or emesis
    • Headache that awakens the child from sleep
    • Family or medical history that may predispose to a CNS lesion
