Teaching Points
- The initial diagnostic modality for suspected scaphoid fracture is plain radiography
- 25% of fractures are occult at the time of presentation
- Further investigation is reliant on repeat plain film imaging, 7-10 days later
- If clinical suspicion of an occult fracture persists, a Nuclear Medicine Scan, MRI or CT may be indicated
