- 'Alert' features include
- Age >55 and recent onset of symptoms
- Daily constant pain
- Weight loss
- NSAID use
- Vomiting
- Past history of gastric ulcer of gastric surgery
- Anaemia
- Dysphagia
- Bleeding
- In the absence of 'alert' symptoms empirical treatment is indicated with anti-secretory drugs +/- H.pylori testing
- In the presence of 'alert' features endoscopy is indicated
